The Night Has a Thousand Eyes

I kept remembering Francis William Bourdillon's "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" as I was making this digital painting early this evening.

I think I always introduced the poem in class whenever I taught English Literature or Creative Writing, it being one of my favorite short poems.

One of the most profound truths can be summed up in eight short lines:

"The Night has a thousand eyes,
And the Day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one;
Yet the light of a whole life dies
When love is done."
