Art and the National Anthem

 We had an art jam a couple of weeks ago. The first photo in this series pleased me in a special way because of the spontaneous standing at attention by these young artists when the Philippine national anthem played at the building across the street. It signalled the start of the senior citizens' day of the Manito town fiesta.

Along with the goal of developing the artistic expression of our youth is the goal of seeing them develop into civic-minded individuals as well.

It is my hope that their respect for the national anthem would translate into concrete acts of responsible citizenship from obeying laws and shunning corrupt practices to truly make our country a beautiful place.
