Painting Break: I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song
I spend a lot of time staring at a painting as I figure out what to do next. I also use that break to enjoy music.
Growing up in the Baguio-Benguet area made me associate a love for mountains and flowers with country-folk music. Afterall, you can't live in the Cordilleras without ever hearing this beautiful genre. So here's Jim Croce's "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song" during a painting break.
Jim Croce's wife, Ingrid, had this to say about this song: they had a disagreement one night but instead of arguing with her, Jim "went downstairs, and he started to play like he always did when he wrote ... the next morning, he came up early in the morning and sang it to me."
Sometimes artists express themselves better through their art -- through their music, their poems, their paintings, or whatever form of art they practice. It is the language through which they hope to be heard and understood; it is the facility in which they understand and make sense of life. And for the greats like Jim Croce, not even a plane crash can silence what they have to say, decades and decades later.
